Sorry but...two questions:

1.) Could you elaborate just a bit on this? What I mean is, I was under the impression that the free scraper scrapes for urls like scrapebox (which I dont have), but youre saying you actually have to be a programmer to do your own packets if you dont want to buy them or get the free ones?

2.) Also, I've just started tinkering around with the scraper and not sure what a "footprint" is exactly. I'm still confused about where I get this even after searching around. Is it just a list of urls or keywords for a specific forum type? That is the impression I get. So I just search here for "footprint" and copy/paste into scraper and that's it to get going? Could you give me an example of what I would insert into the "footprint" section of the scraper? And is there a master list somewhere of different footprints or does it change like the wind?

No you don't have to be a programmer. You don't have to learn sic code either. You can use the free templates to make your own packets from a list of sites you scrape in the scraper.

For footprint explanation.

Let's say you want to scrape for some Pligg sites.

First you need some Pligg footprints... To do that you can just search on Google for "Pligg Footprints" (of all things).

Here's what a Pligg Footprint looks like.. "Powered by Pligg"

Or inurl:/register.php "Powered by Pligg"

Let's now say you want to scrape for some Article Dashboard sites.

We would use "Powered by Article Dashboard" as the footprint. Along with a mixture of keywords.

You see a footprint is a string of text that is found on these sites that they all share.

You can find footprints for any platform in Google by searching. Just search for "x footprints" where x is the platform you are looking for footprints for.

Ie;

Pligg footprints
Article dashboard footprints
WordPress footprints
SMF footprints

etc etc etc.

Google is your friend.

To elaborate on what Lil said.

A footprint in layman terms is something that a specific platform has in common, so as he mentions Pligg platform, the developers incorporated the text "Powered by Pligg" so unless you know how to remove this from the copyright then when you install a Pligg site it will contain the footprint "Powered by Pligg".

Thanks guys for the explanation. I snagged the footprints pdf file...and at almost 200 pages it was a bit daunting, and looks like it was put out in 2009 so now sure how relevant the contained info still is for 2012.

I got the feeling that maybe I should just do my own packets since it dawned on me just how many people were doing the same free packets (or bought packets), so wanted to get some unique places to submit to. Course I dont know what the number of subscribers/buyers are for these packets, but even so, scraping one's own surely would save me a lot of money in the long run.
